OUR STORY

Like any epic tale, this one started small. Two people fell in love, opened a business, quit their day jobs, and dedicated their lives to their shared passion of biking and the forest.

Night Owl Cycling began in 2015 when Kelly Campo filed LLC papers with the State of Washington. By 2016, Heidi had quit her marketing and business development job to work on NOC full time, Kelly and Heidi were married in May, and in August they bought 122.6 acres of forestry land for their future home and bike shop.

KELLY CAMPO

CEO, Mechanic, Advocate

Your bike is in good hands. Night Owl Cycling owner Kelly Campo has been working on bikes since he was a teen. Kelly attended Portland’s United Bike Institute's Pro Bike Mechanics class and continues to update his skills through UBI’s on-going continuing ed concerning the latest in bike technology and service. Kelly teaches classes on bike maintenance and repair for our customers.

Kelly has been encouraging and teaching others how to mountain bike for years. He is a FIT Level II Certified Instructor under retired downhill pro racer Simon Lawton (Fluidride). Kelly is spending a lot of quality time with his mini U17 excavator building trails throughout their 120 acres of forestry land. The trails will be “built for teaching” and filled with features to help you learn and master all the skills you need for mountain biking.

Kelly incorporated his love of biking into his previous “day job” for nearly 30 years as a physical therapist. He has helped countless athletes with injuries and incorporated bike fitting into his job as well. Kelly is a certified cycling coach and is trained in the assessment of both running and cycling biomechanics. In addition to mountain bike racing and road cycling, he has competed in numerous triathlons. Kelly has volunteered multiple times with the medical team for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii.

Kelly is dedicated to our mountain bike community and has served on the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance Westsound Chapter council, was the Project Manager for the new Port Gamble Ride Park, currently serves as co-chair on the Port Gamble Stewardship Committee, and trails committee.

HEIDI CAMPO

COO, Marketing, Hostess

Heidi took up mountain biking in her 30’s when her oldest son learned to ride without training wheels. She’s been in love with the trails and the trees and her bikes ever since. She has enjoyed numerous careers throughout her life including social service where she specialized in domestic violence, child abuse and parenting education. She has been a graphic designer (and computer geek) since the mid-90’s making logos, brochures, and websites. Heidi owned a business called Mysticool where she sold her beaded jewelry pieces on and off-line for the last 15+ years. She was the Director of Business Development & Marketing for a local insurance agency and has consulted and trained small businesses and nonprofits regarding social media. All of her various endeavors have prepared her for the best job of all - operating Night Owl Cycling.

Heidi has worked for years at nonprofit organizations, volunteer and paid, and feels a great calling to help our community.  She currently is on the board for the North Kitsap Trails Association.

FIRST TRAILS AND LAND CLEARING

The property previously belonged to Pope & Talbot timber company and was a Douglas Fir tree farm. We immediately started clearing the property for building and carving out the very first trails.

BUILDING
BEGINS

By August 2017 our permits for the house and the shop were approved by the County. We poured concrete slabs for the house and the shop and started with the builds - a one story home with connected ADU and a 2-story shop with bike shop, lounge, and office.

HOUSE BECOMES HOME

After selling our house on Night Owl Avenue, we lived in our trailer on the property for almost 2 years as Kelly and crew built. In December 2020 we moved into our home and more progress was made on the landscaping and the shop.

I's DOTTED T's CROSSED

The shop gets electricity, heating and air conditioning. The Clover Meadow is created, the Silver Creek Lounge becomes functional, the driveway is reconstructed and pathways are built.
